He married Amy Ethel Waterstreet Swetnam in 1899, and had children Thomas Eugene Swetnam, Hanora Eva Swetnam, Patrick Ryan Swetnam, Margaret Alice Swetnam Ross, Ruby Veronica Swetnam, Amy Ethel Swetnam, George Clyde Swetnam, Frank Alfred Swetnam, Paul Edgar Swetnam, and Eileen Beatrice Swetnam. Thomas Swetnam died at age 57 years old in 1921 in Bruthen, East Gippsland Shire County.
