He had siblings Francis Ronald Hellyar, Percival Gordon Hellyer, Beryl May Hellyer, Ernest Frederick Hellyer, William Les Hellyer, Edith Grace Hellyer Knowles, and Doris Elizabeth Hellyer. Thomas Hellyer married Ivy May Edwards in 1933, and died at age 79 years old in 1985 in Box Hill, Whitehorse City County.
