Thomas Patrick Hansford of Kew, City of Boroondara County, VIC Australia was born in 1877 in St Kilda, Port Phillip City County to Mary Ann (Clarke) Hansford and Thomas Henry Hansford. He had siblings Evangeline 'Eva' Hansford, Mary Anne Hansford, and Agnes Amelia (Hansford) Wilson. He married Rose Lillian (Rutherford) Hansford, and had children John William Hansford, Ivy Madge Hansford, and Alma Rose Hansford. Thomas Hansford died at age 84 years old on July 4, 1962.

In 1877, in the year that Thomas Hansford was born, on January 8th, the Battle of Wolf Mountain occurred in southern Montana Territory. Crazy Horse, Two Moon, and their warriors fought the United States Cavalry. The battle was a tactical draw and by May, Crazy Horse and his followers had surrendered at Camp Robinson.
