Thomas Henry Arthur Crane of Footscray, City of Maribyrnong County, VIC Australia was born in 1886 in Terang to Mary Bailey Crane and William Crane. He had siblings Alice Maud Crane, Leura May Crane, Bertie Alfred Crane, and Ellen Gregson Crane. He married Mary Lynch Crane, and had children Vilma Mary Crane, William Thomas Crane, Jack Crane, Norman Henry Crane, Robert Reginald Crane, and Robert Reginald Crane. Thomas Crane died at age 85 years old in 1971 in Footscray.

In 1886, in the year that Thomas Henry Arthur Crane was born, on October 28th, President Grover Cleveland officially dedicated the Statue of Liberty. A gift from France, the base for the statue had been built using donations from the American public. The unplanned but enthusiastic celebration after the dedication led to the first ticker tape parade.

In 1937, at the age of 51 years old, Thomas was alive when on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.
