He married Samantha Lewes on January 24, 1978 in Sacramento, Sacramento County and they later divorced on March 19, 1987 in Sacramento. They had children Colin Lewes Hanks and Elizabeth Ann Hanks. He would also marry Rita Wilson on April 30, 1988 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County. They had children Chester Marlon Hanks and Truman Theodore Hanks.
