Thomas J. O'Brien,70,of Lansdale,passed away on Tuesday,August 25,2014,at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of 47 years to Clairelynn O'Brien (Whartenby) O'Brien with whom he was united in marriage on August 27,1966. Born on August 29,1943 in Philadelphia,he was a son of the late Mary (nee Wiseman) and Alfred John O'Brien. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War who also served for over 25 years in the Pennsylvania Coastal Guard,where he also participated in Operation Desert Storm. Tom was a retired employee with over 30 years of service of the United States Parcel Service Company. He held memberships in the Lansdale and Hatfield American Legion Posts,the Fraternal Order of Eagles,both of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in Lansdale,and he was also a member and volunteer firefighter of the Upper Gwynedd Fire Department for 10 years. In addition to his wife,he is also survived by a daughter,Joan D. O'Brien;a son,Daniel K. O'Brien and his wife,Michelle;four grandchildren,Amanda Nicole,Christopher Scott,Nathaniel Patrick,and Kellie Elizabeth,all of Lansdale. Tom also leaves behind his sisters,Dorothy Hughes,of Seattle,WA,and Eleanor Essenthier,of Lansdale. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday,September 3,2014 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Huff & Lasker Funeral Home,701 Derstine Avenue,Lansdale,PA 19446 where the Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 A.M. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery,Newtown. In lieu of flowers,memorial contributions may be made in Tom's name to the Hatfield American Legion Post#933,2100 Koffel Road,Hatfield,PA 19440,to help support the care and treatment of veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.ADVERTISEMENT BYLooking for more information?
