    Bendigo Advertiser, 15 September 1904. Our Bridgewater correspondent writes:- One of the oldest residents of this district ( Mr. Thomas Lahiff, blacksmith ), died yesterday. The deceased gentleman, who was 63 years of age, and a native of County Clare, was much respected. He lived here for about 40 years. He leaves a widow and family of 10 children to mourn their loss.

President Jackson had previously dissolved the bank and Tyler's veto angered the Whig Party (his own party). Rioters gathered outside the White House and burned Tyler in effigy, threw stones at the White House, and fired guns. It may have been the most violent demonstration on White House grounds in U.S. history.
