On September 4, 1873 Thomas married Grace Louisa Tretheweay (1850-1930) in St Austell, Cornwall, England. The couple had children Edward (1874-1936), Anna (1876-1952), William Thomas (1878-1895), Mary (1880-1968), Edith (1882-1947), James (born 1885), Jane (1885-1978), David (1888-1962), Kate Sylvia (1890-1968), and Richard Tretheweay Rundell (1893-1964). Thomas and his wife immigrated to Australia and arrived in Melbourne, Australia on July 15, 1881. They lived in Ballaarat East, Ballaarat, Victoria, Australia.
