Thomas Nathaniel Buffaloe c. 1827 - 1896

Thomas Nathaniel Buffaloe was born circa 1827 to Mahala Beasley and Bee) William Addison Buffaloe, and had siblings Burrel Polk Buffaloe, John Porter Buffaloe, Martha Ann Buffaloe, Linsey B. Buffaloe, Mary Jane Whisenant, Fabius H. Buffaloe, Rufus E. Buffaloe, and Fab H. Buffaloe. He was the father of William Addison Buffaloe. Thomas Buffaloe died at age 69 years old in 1896.

In 1827, in the year that Thomas Nathaniel Buffaloe was born, Englishman John Walker invented the first friction match, which he named Lucifer. The match consisted of a wooden stick coated with sulphur and tipped with a mixture of sulphide of antimony, chlorate of potash, and gum. A box of 50 matches was one shilling and came with folded sandpaper to use to strike a match.
