    Birth: Dec. 5, 1931 Death: Aug. 24, 1999 Buffalo News, The (NY) - September 7, 1999 Deceased Name: THOMAS P. GANEY , RETIRED MARINE CORPS OFFICER Retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Thomas P. Ganey, a career officer who grew up in Kenmore and served in military posts throughout the world, will be buried with full military honors Friday in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. The burial will follow a Memorial Mass at 9:45 a.m. in the post chapel at Fort Myer, Va. Ganey, who did two tours of service in Vietnam as a battalion commander in the Third Marines, First Marine Division, died Aug. 24, 1999, in the Hospice Acute Care Center in Arlington after a long illness. He was 68. He was a native of Buffalo and a graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute and Canisius College. He served in the Marines for 21 years before retiring in 1976 and going into the real estate business. Ganey, a resident of Springfield, Va., held numerous military decorations, including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Legion of Merit and the Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon. He returned to Western New York frequently over the years to visit family and friends and to attend his high school and college reunions. He was an avid golfer and member of the Marine Corps Association. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, the former Joan Cunningham; three daughters, Shannon Potts of Chattanooga, Tenn., Bridget of Charlottesville, Va., and Colleen of Springfield; three sons, Brian of Winchester, Va.; Tobias of Vienna, Va., and John of Burke, Va. Survivors also include five brothers, John of Marston Mills, Mass., Charles of Vernon, Conn., Joseph of Herndon, Va., Michael of Spokane, Wash., and George Jr.; four sisters, Joan Klawitter of Aurora, Ohio, Phyllis Jamieson of Amherst, Sue Ann Miller of Redding, Mass., and Judith Charters of Spokane; and six grandchildren Note: LT COL US MARINE CORPS; VIETNAM Burial: Arlington National Cemetery Arlington Arlington County Virginia, USA Plot: Sec: 66, Site: 5505 Created by: John C.
