He was married to Matilda J (Burley) Lizenbee on May 18, 1950, and they were together until Matilda's death in February 1990. He had children Ralph Edward Burley, Marshella Kay (Lizenbee) Tackett, Roberta June (Lizenbee) Zimmer, Dawn Marie (Lizenbee) Allen, and Karen Jan (Lizenbee) Bockmiller. Thurman Lizenbee died at age 86 years old on December 5, 2002.
