Timothy Dewhurst was born in 1836 in Campbell Town, Northern Midlands Council County, TAS Australia to Charles Dewhurst and Elizabeth (Banks) Dewhurst, and had siblings Charles Dewhurst and Thomas Dewhurst. Timothy Dewhurst died at age 85 years old in 1921, and was buried at Queenborough Cemetery in Sandy Bay, City of Hobart County.

Originally part of the Louisiana Purchase, the area became the Territory of Arkansas in 1819 and the Territory immediately began the process of expelling native Americans to west of the Mississippi.
