In 1974, in the year that Todd M Mccarley was born, on August 9th, Gerald R. Ford became the 38th President of the United States. He had been Vice President for 8 months when he became President due to the resignation of President Nixon.

In 1980, he was merely 6 years old when on December 8th, ex-Beatle John Lennon was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman in front of his home - the Dakota - in New York City. Chapman was found guilty of murder and still remains in jail.

In 1987, he was only 13 years old when was the first time that a criminal in the United States - a serial rapist - was convicted through the use of DNA evidence.

In 1994, in the year of Todd M Mccarley's passing, on May 6th, former political prisoner, lawyer, and activist Nelson Mandela was elected the first black President of South Africa. He was 75 when he was elected and he served one five-year term.
