Tynne Soderlund was born Tynne Marie Yliluoma in Finland. She emigrated from Finland to marry and upon arriving in New York discovered that her intended was in jail. Rather than return to Finland she moved to the upper peninsula of Michigan where she met and married John Soderlund. They had two children, Elsie and Edwin. The family moved to Globe AZ where John died in 1931. Tynne moved her family to Rock Springs, where there was a strong Finnish community. She was known, in the Rock Springs community, as Aiti, Finnish for Mother, until her death in 1975.
