Mrs. Vandora Forth was raised by her grandparents in Louisville, GA who were themselves born slaves. She was married to a man that worked at Georgia Power Plant McManus in Brunswick, GA. I only heard him called "Coon" Forth. Back in the 60's and 70's that was not considered disrespectful and even Vandora lovingly called him Coon. I know that he died a few years before her. She started being our nanny around 1969 through 1975 when we moved to NE GA but we went back to Brunswick every summer to visit her. "Coon" and Vandora lived in a little home on Fourth Street near downtown Brunswick. They had no children. They did have one "Godson" but I cannot remember his name. They did not have running water. She took care of me and my 2 brothers and my sister and we loved her just like she was our own family. When we moved away, we begged her to go with us but she couldn't leave her husband and her Godson. She was one of the finest women that I have ever known in my life. She was a true Christian. She was loving, kind, and giving. If there is a Heaven, I know she's there and I hope to see her there one day.
