Verla Merritt first married Labon Ray Noble (1932 - 2004) in 1953 and they had three daughters and two sons. Verla and Labon divorced in January of 1969. She then married Alvin Flint Thornton (1935 - 2012) and they had one son. She and Alvin divorced in October of 1980.
