Box 85, in Big Rock, Buchanan County, Virginia USA to Beatrice Rebecca Blackburn Billiter and Millard BIlliter, and had siblings Bobby Harold Billiter, Sarah Estalene Clark, Mary Magdalene Clark, Johnnie Dean Lee, Joyce Billiter, and Millard Billiter, Jr.. He married Ruby Jean Spears Billiter, and had children Karen Lynn Billiter Patton and Rejheanna Lynn Billiter. Verlon Billiter died at age 63 years old on January 9, 2003 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, and was buried on January 13, 2003 at Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock.

    Verlon B. Billiter BIG ROCK, Va. -- Verlon Blake Billiter, 63 years of age, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Hospital, Bristol Tennessee, following a short illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Millard and Beatrice Blackburn Billiter. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of Oakwood Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean conflict serving in the Military Police Force. He was a member of the John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion and Childs Gentry Post 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the D.A.V. He had been employed by Jack Smith for more than 35 years and at the time of his death he was manager of MountainValley Memorial Park Inc., Big Rock. Mr. Billiter was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed but will never be forgotten. Mr. Billiter is survived by his wife, Ruby Jean Spears Billiter, Big Rock; one daughter, Karen Lynn Billiter and husband Gregory Patton, Mentone, Ind.; two grandsons, Christopher Gregory Patton, Mentone, and Cameron Blake Patton, Mentone; three sisters, Mary Magdalene Clark, Vesuvius, Va., Estalene Clark, Salem, Ill., and Johnnie Dean Lee, Big Rock; two very special friends, Avery and Jane Goble, Prestonsburg, Ky.; also a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Regina Lynn Billiter; one sister, Joyce Billiter; two brothers, Bobby Harold and Millard Billiter Jr.; one sister-in-law, Wilma Jean Billiter; and one brother-in-law, Harold Lee Clark. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelists Keith Hovis and Ronnie Sammons officiating with entombment to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum, Big Rock. Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m There will be services at the funeral home chapel Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Billiter, James Billiter, Robert Billiter, Thurl Chafins, Randy Fletcher, Bill Neeley and David Belcher. Honorary pallbearers will be: T.C. Mullins Jr., Curtis R. Mullins, Andrew Horne, Avery Goble, Gregory Patton, Jimmy Goble, Phillip Keen, Bobby Goble, Billy Goble, Jack Smith, Steve Smith, Larry Arnold and Rick Quesenberry. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion. The family suggests that expression of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Blake Billiter Medical Expense Fund, P.O. Box 85, Big Rock,VA 24603. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.
