During his teenage years, he lived in the Bronx with his aunt and uncle, Agnes and Beryl Herbert, his cousin Stanley, his mother Johanna Alleyne, and another family member, Edba Babb. On April 21, 1948, Vernon married Vera L. Nichols in the Bronx, NY. Together, they had a daughter named Diann Alleyne. In the 1980s and 1990s, Vernon resided at 120 Benchley Place in the Bronx. He worked as an English teacher at a public school in New York City. Vernon Clarence Alleyne passed away on October 27, 2008.
