Victor Ernest Walker of Bendigo, Greater Bendigo City County, VIC Australia was born in 1879 in Preston, City of Darebin County to Margaret Hartley Walker and Ernest Australia Walker. He had siblings Gertrude Isabel Walker, Annie Muriel Walker, Ernest Frederick Walker, Margaret Hartley Walker, Joseph Hartley Walker, Robert Herbert Walker, Hartley Rowland Walker, and Vernon Charles Walker. He married Emily Beatrice (Harrap) Walker in 1903, and had children Alan Ernt Walker, Phyllis Jean Walker, and Eleanor Margaret Walker. Victor Walker died at age 76 years old in 1955 in Bendigo, Greater Bendigo City County.

In 1879, in the year that Victor Ernest Walker was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.

In 1886, when he was merely 7 years old, on June 13th, the "Great Vancouver Fire" destroyed most of Vancouver, British Columbia. A small brush fire got out of control and spread to the rest of the city. Dozens of people died and it was only after the fire that money was raised for a fire hall. The local Squamish tribe rescued people who had jumped into bodies of water to escape the conflagration.
