Early Life & Education

Troye stemmed from an old Bergen family and was nephew of Peter Andreas Jensen . He was cand. philol. in 1877 and was later a teacher at Bergen Cathedral School , from 1900 senior teacher. Troye interested strongly for English culture, partly because of a friendship with religion historian Joseph Estlin Carpenter , who he met in Utne in Hardanger in the 1880s. He translated several works of Thomas Carlyle and wrote a study of Carlyle, Thomas Carlyle, his life and his Værk (1889). Main interest his only applied to Henrik Wergeland . About him he wrote Henrik Wergeland in his digtning, which was published posthumously by his Eitrem in 1908. Within the Norwegian literature research history excels Troye in that he was the only literary historian between Marcus Jacob Monrad and Peter Rokseth who opposed historicism . Wikipedia
