Viola C Varanelli of Waterbury, New Haven County, CT was born on July 17, 1916. She married Pasquale Varanelli in 1937, and they were married until Pasquale's death in 1987. They had children Marie Ann (Varanelli) Vitarelli and Patricia Ann (Varanelli) Carson. She also married Abraham Pearson in 2002, and they were married until Viola's death on February 15, 2008.

In 1916, in the year that Viola C Varanelli was born, suffragette Jeannette Pickering Rankin became the first woman elected to the House of Representatives as a Representative at large from Montana. She was the first woman to hold an elected Federal office. Holding the office for two years, she ran again in 1940 and served another two year term. Montana had granted women unrestricted voting rights in 1914, 6 years before women got the vote nationally.
