Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Virginia

My name is Christine Marshall Case. Curtis (Sandy) and Virginia Laprade were very good friends of my parents during my teenage years. I graduated in 1970 from Hoxie High School in Hoxie, KS. Virginia was an excellent seamstress (very professional) and made my prom dress for me in the spring of 1970. It was a peach crepe lined with taffeta. She could line things expertly. She did mention growing up in --I hope I remember this correctly -- Vandalia, Ohio. I don't know what her maiden name was. She was very active in Eastern Star. I believe Curtis (Sandy) was her second husband. She had one son from a prior marriage who was grown and lived in California with his wife. They came to Hoxie to visit for a couple of weeks in the summer every few years. I don't believe Virginia had an grandchildren. I believe I saw her for the last time early in the 1980's after I had married and had one child of my own. My father died in 1983 and shortly thereafter, my mother moved to Nebraska to live with my older sister. I believe my mother maintained some sporadic phone contact with Virginia up until the late 1980's. My mother mentioned that Virginia was still residing in the well kept small and charming home she and Curtis had purchased in Hoxie. Virginia had someone to come in help her with tasks she could no longer do. I remember Virginia was asthmatic and suffered a lot during different seasons with breathing problems. Curtis was a great gardener, and he maintained their large yard quite well as long as he could. In May 2013, I visited the Hoxie cemetery. My husband has relatives buried there. I decided to look for Virginia and Sandy's graves. I wondered if they both had been buried in Hoxie. Sandy grew up in northern Texas, so I didn't know. I found both graves in the Hoxie cemetery and placed some flowers there. I remember them both fondly. Virginia was such a nice lady, and so supportive and interested in the teenage girl I was back then.
