Virginia Lee Henderson Powell 1919 - 2001

Virginia Lee (Henderson) Powell was born on December 21, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia United States to Rawley Ellis Henderson and Annie Lawrence (Dawson) Henderson Manley, and had siblings Cordia Elizabeth Henderson Jennings, Ellis Abner Henderson, Chesley Watkins Henderson, George Gunn Henderson, Eugene Carson Henderson, Margaret Taylor Henderson Turner, Beulah Anne Henderson Lewis, and Roy Edgar Henderson. She married Frank Hill Powell on May 5, 1942, and they were married until Frank's death on January 10, 1972 in Danville. She had children Frankie Jean (Powell) Chandler, Jerry Mitchell Powell, and Betty Sue (Powell) Floyd. Virginia Powell died at age 81 years old on March 25, 2001 in Blanch, NC.

In 1919, in the year that Virginia Lee Henderson Powell was born, on January 6th, President Theodore Roosevelt died. Having gone to bed the previous night after being treated for breathing problems, the ex-President died in his sleep from a clot that had traveled to his lungs. He was 60. After a simple service, Roosevelt was buried on a hillside overlooking Oyster Bay.
