  • Introduction

    Vito “Bill” Locricchio was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 14, 1928. Bill’s parents, Vito Locricchio and Ida Valenti Locricchio, were Italian immigrants who met and married here in the United States. He had two older brothers, Michael, Joseph (Babe), and a younger sister, Madeline all of whom preceded him in death. Bill came to North Denver when he was 16 with his father and the rest of his family soon followed. He graduated from North High school in 1946 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy, where he served for two tours. He graduated from the University of Denver in 1952 with a Bachelors in Business and became a Certified Public Accountant. In 1952 he married Dolores Serna. They have two daughters, Valorie Serna Locricchio of Austin TX , and Jo Marie Locricchio Turman and a son-in-law, Darrell Turman of Ft. Collins, CO. He is blessed by his grandchildren, Zach Lawlor ,Kate Lawlor Corrie , David Turman and Drayden Turman. He lived in the Denver area until 1992 when he moved to Blackhawk and worked in the casinos until he was in his late 70’s. In 2011 he moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and lived with Jo, Darrell, and their sons while he rehabbed. After 6 months with them, at 83 years old he moved to his own apartment in Fort. Collins and made it his home. He quickly found the local Walmart and Sam’s Club. He made many good friends while living there and enjoyed running all over Fort Collins as he was still driving. Eventually he convalesced in the Fort Collins Health Care System. On February 14, 2015, his birthday, he ended up in the hospital after a fall that caused a second broken hip. He succumbed to multiple complications and passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 5:25 p.m. in the company of his two daughters and son-in-law.

In 1928, in the year that Vito Locricchio was born, aviatrix Amelia Earhart, age 31, became the first woman to fly solo across North America and back in August. In June, she had been part of a 3 man crew that flew the Atlantic Ocean but since she had no instrument training, she couldn't fly the plane - she kept the flight log. The North American flight became one of her many "firsts" as a female pilot.

In 1939, at the age of only 11 years old, Vito was alive when on the 1st of September, Nazi Germany invaded Poland. On September 17th, the Soviet Union invaded Poland as well. Poland expected help from France and the United Kingdom, since they had a pact with both. But no help came. By October 6th, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany held full control of the previously Polish lands. Eventually, the invasion of Poland lead to World War II.
