    Waitie Lee Tarepin is the son of Wilson Terripin (bron 1904). He was born on January 15, 1928 in Stillwell, Adair County, Oklahoma and grew up there. Waitie registered for the World War II Drafy on his 18th birthday, January 15, 1946, in his hometown of Stilwell and was working for Bryan Freeman at the time of his registration. He then enlisted in the military on March 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with a military serial number of 18174486. He joined the Cavalry branch of the Regular Army as a private, and his terms of enlistment were for the Hawaiian Department. Waitie served for more than three years in the military before being discharged on June 20, 1952. During his service, he rose to the rank of Private.
