I never had Walker Briggs (as a teacher) but occasionally saw him come into or leave Mrs. Tyler's class 1973-74. He seemed to be rather old and frail. I understand he was a football coach at MHS but he didn't look like one. Anyway, RIP.
Tim Donovan commented on Jun 18
As far as I can determine, 1981 was the last year in which Briggs appeared in a yearbook. He must've retired that year, or the following year.
Tim Donovan commented on Jun 18
I remember one day Mrs. Tyler had a guest in our class--a guy from Afghanistan. Just before class started, the guy was standing near my desk when old Mr. Briggs sauntered into the room, his eyes on the floor. Suddenly he came to the Afghan guy and looked up, momentarily terrified at the appearance of this swarthy foreigner. "Good morning" he said, and the guy reciprocated--in a tone of voice which seemed to scold Briggs for being shocked by someone like him.
