Wallace "Wally" Safford was security guard at the “Purple Rain Tour” and dancer for Prince from 1984 to 1988 and died in 2022 at the age of 63. Wallace Safford is the former personal bodyguard for Prince whose career began at 15 by doing security for iconic artists, including the Commodores, Parliament Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire and Teddy Pendergrass. Safford subsequently transitioned from handling security with Prince at the height of his career to performing on stage as a background dancer and singer for the Academy Award-winning musician, who even recorded a song named in his honor, Wally.
