Walter Fontin was born in Kiev Ukraine. He was Sophia's first child and was always her beloved. He was a precocious child, very very smart. My mother told this story and we all laughed about it, my mother, Walter and me. Now I tell this story.
It was Walters first hair cut as a big boy of three. His father took him to a proper barber and they sat him in the adult chair awaiting his haircut. The barber bent over Walter and asked 'How would you like to have your hair cut?'. Walter replied 'Take it off the Top and leave the side alone.'.Imagine that haircut, male pattern baldness. Apparently Walter had noticed it as a distinct style and wanted that cut. So we asked him what happened. He said that he got a normal cut and he was disgusted ( his word).
