Walter J. Ducharme of Gainesville, Alachua County, FL was born on July 20, 1919 in St Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota United States to Elizabeth Mary (Bessette) DuCharme and Pierre Rémi DuCharme. He had siblings Monica DuCharme, Ernest Peter DuCharme, Andrew Rémi DuCharme, and Phyllis Ann (DuCharme) Hanson. He married Marjorie Sorenson DuCharme, and had children William DuCharme, Richard DuCharme, and Charline Gordon (Née DuCharme). Walter Ducharme died at age 87 years old on July 12, 2007.

In 1919, in the year that Walter J. DuCharme was born, on January 6th, President Theodore Roosevelt died. Having gone to bed the previous night after being treated for breathing problems, the ex-President died in his sleep from a clot that had traveled to his lungs. He was 60. After a simple service, Roosevelt was buried on a hillside overlooking Oyster Bay.

In 1936, Walter was 17 years old when on November 2nd, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) debuted the world's first regular high-definition television service. The channel had a short schedule - Monday through Saturday, 3:00p to 4:00p and 9:00p to 10:00p. The first broadcast was "Opening of the BBC Television Service".
