Walter Womack was born on November 25, 1900 to Eliza Jane (McBride) Womack and William Pink Womack, and had siblings George Burr Womack, Beatrice (Womack) Boyd-Milton, Marvin Womack, Mary Ethel "Ethel" (Womack) Gillentine, Ronald Lee "Ronnie" Womack, and Archie Wilson Womack. Walter Womack died at age 1 year old on January 23, 1902.

In 1900, in the year that Walter "Little Walter" Womack was born, the U.S. helped put down Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion took place in China, where the presence of "outsiders" (foreigners) was resented. The United States, along with Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia, had business interests in China and these countries all sent troops to put down the Rebellion and keep China open to their presence and to Christian missionaries.

In 1902, in the year of Walter "Little Walter" Womack's passing, the world famous Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso, made the first gramophone recording by a popular singer. Accompanied by only a piano, his voice recordings became a big seller and did much to popularize the new-fangled gramophone. He had to sing into a metal "horn" that relayed his voice to a metal disc. And the songs had to be under 4 and a half minutes!
