He had siblings Florence Emily (Capes) Roy, Edith Mary (Capes) Pascoe, Ernest Digby Capes, Charles Percy Capes, Clara Louisa (Capes) Judd, Lucy Ellen (Capes) Chenie, and Henry William Capes. He married Ruth Mary Cattermole in 1901, and had a child Percival John Capes. Walter Capes died at age 75 years old on July 19, 1936 in Renmark, Renmark Paringa Council County, SA.
