He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with two stars), Southwest Asia Service Medal (with two stars), Letter of Appreciation, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and USMC Rifle Expert Badge (2nd award).

    Anchorage Daily News December 13, 2002 WALTER SAMUEL GRAHAM JR., 32, died Nov. 28, 2002, on the way to the Alaska Regional Hospital after a car accident Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 28, 2002, along with his best friend, Brian Litzinger. Visitation was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St., with a service. Chaplain Don McCullough officiated. Pallbearers included Harold, Jim, Richard and Gerald Graham, Curtis Neucklavok, Joshua Henderson and Dane Whitmore. Burial followed at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of life was held at Fairview Recreation Center. Mr. Graham was born Oct. 6, 1970 in Ketchikan. He graduated from Dimond High School in 1989. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps (1989) and became a Corporal. He served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with two stars), Southwest Asia Service Medal (with two stars), Letter of Appreciation, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Rifle Expert (2nd award), and was honorably discharged Dec. 4, 1994. Walter was employed with Puget Sound Pipe. His co-workers will miss him. Previous employers included British Petroleum and Cook Inlet Tribal Council. His hobbies were darts, sports, chess, four-wheeling, sledding, fishing, body surfing, snorkeling, photography, computers, collecting special edition game boards, comic books, action figures, Coca-Cola collectibles, playing card games and Nintendo. His family wrote: ''Walter was a loving, gentle person who put others before himself and stood by his word. He was devoted to his children and was proud of his family's involvement with Native dancing and artwork. He loved animals.'' Mr. Graham was preceded in death by grandfathers Herman Graham and Patrick Neucklavok; uncle, Mitch Graham; nephew, David Graham; and cousin, Gerald Graham Jr. He is survived by his children, Walter Graham III and Elizara Graham; former wife, Monica McIntyre and her family; parents, Janet and Walter Graham Sr.; sisters and brother-in-law, Melinda Graham, Hazel and Dane Whitmore; grandmother, Hazel Cogo-Graham; aunts and uncles, Jim and Joanne Graham, who were also his godparents, Marianne Neucklavok and Pamelia Henderson; friend, Maggie Kersh; and many other relatives and friends.
