He had siblings Frederick Alfred Summerhayes, George Summerhayes, Edith Alice Summerhayes, Mary Anne Summerhayes, Olive Louisa Summerhayes, Helen Grace Summerhayes, Ernest John Summerhayes, Albert Summerhayes, Charles Arthur Summerhayes, and William Francis Summerhayes. He married Mar Elizabeth Summerhayes, and had a child Walter Summerhayes. Walter Summerhayes died at age 73 years old on February 4, 1970 in Kerang, Gannawarra Shire County.
