Weldon Kelly McBride Sr. of Mount Juliet, Wilson County, TN was born on August 31, 1906 in Oklahoma United States to Emanuel Kelly "Manuel" McBride and Della S. (Taylor) McBride. Weldon McBride had siblings Dora Edith McBride, Ethel Louella "Ella" (McBride) Farrow-Conder, Mattie Jane (McBride) Payne, Jasper Pink "J. P." McBride, and Mary Elizabeth "Liba" (McBride) Styles. He married Esther (Gault) McBride, and they had a child Weldon Kelly McBride, Jr.. He would also marry Annie (Green) McBride. He also married Aileen (Goforth) McBride, and they had a child Charles E. McBride. Weldon McBride died at age 89 years old on June 16, 1996 in Mount Juliet, TN.

In 1906, in the year that Weldon Kelly McBride, Sr. was born, author Upton Sinclair exposed the public-health threat of the meat-packing industry in his book The Jungle. While his intent was to show the lives of exploited lives of immigrants in Chicago and other industrialized cities, most people were horrified by how the meat that ended up on their tables was handled. There was such an outcry that legislation was passed to regulate meat packing. Sinclair said " "I aimed at the public's heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach."

In 1919, Weldon was merely 13 years old when in January, Nebraska was the 36th state to ratify the 18th Amendment, making it the law of the land. The 18th Amendment established Prohibition - a law against the production, transport, and sale of alcohol. Private consumption and possession were not prohibited. Several months later, the Volstead Act was passed, creating laws to enforce the Amendment. Bootlegging and bathtub gin followed.
