Wilbur R Shearer of New Haven, Allen County, IN was born on May 8, 1921. He was the parent of William Shearer, Philip "butch" Shearer, and Daniel Shearer. He married Waneta Jean (Locke) Swick Shearer, and they were married until Wilbur's death on May 11, 2005.

    WILBUR R. "BUD" SHEARER, 84, of New Haven, died, Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Parkview Hospital. Born in Black River Falls, Wis., he retired in 1999 from Maumee Industries and was previously a production manager for Town and Country Foods and H&L Distributors. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corp veteran and a member of American Legion Post 330 and attended New Haven United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Waneta Swick-Shearer; sons, Phillip (Karla) Shearer of Beulah, Mich.; Dannie (Georgia) Shearer and William (Beverly) Shearer, both of Stroh, Joe (Judith) Swick Jr. of Alachua, Fla., Douglas (Vickie) Swick of Fort Wayne, Harry (Billie) Swick of Wolcottville and Robert Swick of New Haven; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana Hwy. 930 E., New Haven, with calling one hour before service. Calling also from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with American Legion Post 330 evening visitation at 7:30 p.m. Burial in Allentown Cemetery, Lima, Ohio. Preferred memorials to New Haven United Methodist Church or Parkview Ambassadors.

In 1921, in the year that Wilbur R "bud" Shearer was born, in May, the Emergency Quota Act - or Emergency Immigration Act - was passed. The law restricted the number of immigrants to 357,000 per year. It also established an immigration quota in which only 3 per cent of the total population of any ethnic group already in the USA in 1910, could be admitted to America after 1921. Although the Act was supposed to be temporary, it stayed in effect until 1965.

In 1942, he was 21 years old when from January 7th through April 9th, the Battle of Bataan was fought in the Philippines. At the end of the battle, the U.S. and Filipino forces surrendered and a three-year occupation of the Philippines by Japan began. Between 60,000 and 80,000 American and Filipino soldiers surrendered and were marched around 60 to 69 miles - most were beaten, abused, or killed. Named the Bataan Death March, it was later declared to be a war crime.
