Stories were told of Wiley’s hildhood growing up in Tennessee while occupied by the Union. Once while at a well on the family farm as a company of Confederate Calvary camped around the house a shot rang out from an apple orchard not far away. A confederate officer yelled at Wiley to “ get down.. their shooting at you “. A short time later another shot was fired, however this time a union sniper fell from an apple tree.
