Me again: Here's a link that shows a scan of the page where his name is entered as Willem Roeland van der Meer with that same mother's name given and the same birth date. Unfortunately, it's all in Dutch, which I can't read, but it's a great resource!

Some of this information is incorrect. Willem was NOT an only child. His parents married a year after he was born (in Dec 1912) and his name was changed to Willem Roeland van der Meer (his father's family name). His parents' next child, born in January 1913 (one month after their marriage) was my grandfather.
I've heard family stories that Willem was a member of the Dutch equivalent of the National Guard and as such was sent to a low-security concentration camp in Austria by the Nazis where he met his Austrian wife. Again, that's just oral tradition. I haven't found the records yet, but I'm searching military archives.
If you're a relative, or just searching out of curiosity, best wishes and good luck!
