In 1938, he married Helen Fi Kanker (born 1910) and they had children including Patricia Gail Knowlton (1940-2021) his step daughter, and Barbara Belle Vash (1950-2006) William and Dorothy's biological child. William enlisted into the United States military on September 22, 1944 and was a WWII veteran.
