William Allen Rankin was born in 1870 to Donald Rankin and Christina (Hutchison) Rankin. He married Caroline Mansfield (Rodden) Rankin, and had a child William David Rankin. William Rankin died at age 69 years old in 1939 at Orbost District Hospital in Orbost, East Gippsland Shire County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Orbost Cemetery in Orbost.

    The Gippsland Times. 10th July 1938. MR. WILLIAM ALLEN RANKIN. At the Orbost District Hospital, on Tuesday, Mr. William Allen Rankin, of Bendoc, aged 69, passed away. The deceased was a native of Nimmitabel, N.S.W. He is survived by his family of four daughters and two sons, his wife having predeceased him.
