He had siblings Benjamin Bunton Mawson, Charlotte Elizabeth Mawson, Isabella Margaret (Mawson) Johnston, Alfred Thomas Mawson, Joseph Walton Mawson, Annie Mary (Mawson) Jondahl, and John Robert Mawson. He married Ellen (Philby) Mawson in 1884, and had a child Mary Ellen Mawson. William Mawson died at age 80 years old on April 18, 1939 in Corowa, Federation Council County, NSW.

District Attorney and son of Francis Scott Key, writer of the national anthem, for having an affair with his wife. Sickles claimed temporary insanity - the first to do so - and was acquitted.
