  • Introduction

Born on September 11, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA, William B. It is uncertain whether he retained his original surname. William attended Ripley High School in New York and later served as a Private First Class in the US Army, though he did not see combat. He went on to work for both the Department of Defense and IBM. William married Ramona Winder Beglen and together they had six children: Peter J. Beglen, William B. Beglen, Susan D. • Ethnicity & Family History

Caucasian. Of German, Swiss and other European countries. Most of our relatives (Beglen, Abegglen, etc.) have brown hair and blue eyes. Very few blonde people of the WW2 eugenics. Most Beglens arrived on the east coast of USA by the 1880s. Some came earlier. Some later. Some claim we are really of the Bauer family. I believe, it doesn't matter. We were already kin. Most of us are either 7th day Adventist/Christian, Catholic or agnostic. (It gets complicated.) Some research suggests: Our family left Europe, when Catholics and protestant people clashed. Other research suggests: Our family were Mennonites. If we are really of the Bauer surname, maybe, Jewish Germans who were forced to convert to Catholicism and take German names. (Centuries before WW2) Which would have been enough reason to move to the United States. It's interesting. Yet, all over the place. Every website about surnames, says something different.
  • Nationality & Locations

William was adopted. It's not clear, whether he kept his real surname. Or, his adopted name. All I know is: He and his brothers and sister, escaped their abusive foster home, in Pittsburgh, Pa. William was 16 at the time. He traveled all over the country and the world. His favorite place was Hawaii. The last residence, before his passing, was: 5028 Shepherdstown rd. Martinsburg, WV.
  • Early Life & Education

He attended Ripley high school in New York. I'm not exactly sure what college he went to. He did have a "Harvard" sweater hanging up in his office. Just another mystery about Pops.

He was a private first class. Never went to war.
  • Professional Career

William served in the US Army and also worked for the Department of defense and for IBM.
  • Personal Life & Family

Very interesting man. There's still things popping up about him. He was a hobbyist, computer genius and musician. Which has been kept a legacy, 3 generations, so far.

Add Memories, Stories & Photos about William

William was my grandfather on my father's side of the family. He joined the U.S. Army. Put himself through college, doing odd jobs, selling produce to help pay it off. Got a job in the department of defense in the early 1960s. Helped with founding IBM. He also was a good musician. Though shy about it. He loved to play steel guitar and sing. There's so many unanswered mysteries, hints and rumors of his amazing life. He tried to make it look like he never existed. From recent research about him, I came across a strange surprise: Our family might not even be
