William Charles Gore 1874 - 1967

William Charles Gore of Dixie, Corangamite Shire County, VIC Australia was born in 1874 in Ecklin South to Francis John Gore and Mercy Bateman Gore. He had siblings Beatrice Julia (Gore) Sharp, Henry Gore, Arthur Thomas Gore, Joseph Gordon Gore, Walter Ernest Gore, Alfred James Gore, and Francis John Gore. He married Elizabeth Ann Bailey Gore in 1897, and had children Roy Wilfred Gore, Vera Lilian Gore, Elsie Beatrice Gore, Catherine Mercy Gore, Annie Florence Gore, Francis Robert Gore, Charles Harold Gore, and Norman William Gore. William Gore died at age 92 years old on January 25, 1967 in Dixie.

In 1874, in the year that William Charles Gore was born, on May 20th, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis were approved for a patent for "blue jeans with copper rivets". They charged $13.50 per dozen jeans. Although the term "jeans" was first used in 1795 - in Italy - using rivets to reinforce stress points in jeans such as pockets and the bottom of the fly was an original idea..

In 1898, by the time he was 24 years old, on February 15th, the USS Maine exploded and sank in Havana harbor. The reason for the explosion has never been found, but it killed 266 men.
