William Edwin Cheek, 69, of Tifton died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Mr. Cheek was born March 20, 1944 in Tift County to the late James Hoyt and Evelyn Lee Ellis Cheek. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jolena Mae Andrews Cheek, who died in 1996; two brothers, Lewis Cheek and Emory Cheek; and an infant sister. Mr. Cheek was a Tift County High School graduate and then went on to serve in the United States Navy. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Tifton and also worked at the Experimental Station, Tifton Police Department, Walmart, Lowes, Big Star Grocery Store and was chief of the Police Auxiliary for three years. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and riding motorcycles. Mr. Cheek is survived by his son, Everett Cheek of Tifton; two daughters and a son-in-law, SueLeen and Brent Saunders of Roswell and Anita Ruth Cheek White of Foley, Ala.; and a granddaughter, SueLeena White.
