William Dennis Pulham of Australia was born in 1871 to Mary Allwood Cooper and George Pulham. He had siblings Mary Alice Pulham, Evelyn Mary Pulham, Lucy Alice Pulham, Mabel Alida Pulham, Ruby Gladys Pulham, George Ernest Pulham, George Richard Pulham, William Pulham, Arthur Pulham, and Ethel May Spilsbury. William Pulham died at age 6 years old in 1877.

In 1871, in the year that William Dennis Pulham was born, on March 29th, Royal Albert Hall in London was officially opened by Queen Victoria. Construction had begun in 1867 and the hall was named after Queen Victoria's husband, who had died in 1861 - 10 years before.

In 1877, in the year of William Dennis Pulham's passing, on July 14th, strikes and resulting riots began at the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad. A sympathy strike and rioting began in Pittsburgh and a worker's rebellion began in St. Louis, then spread to other cities. 100 people were killed before the strikes ended when President Rutherford B. Hayes sent federal troops to each of the cities involved.
