William Henderson of Bung Australia was born in 1864 in Bung Bong, VIC to George Cunningham Henderson and Agnes Chartres Henderson. He had siblings John Henderson, Agnes Ann (Henderson) Neil, Helen Henderson, George Henderson, Joseph Chartres Henderson, and Janet Ritchie (Henderson) Clark. He married Mary Agnes (Porteous) Henderson in 1897, and had children George William Henderson, Mary Victoria Henderson, Martha Evelyn Henderson, Nellie Barbara Henderson, Emily Margaret Henderson, James Arthur Henderson, and Jessie Mary Henderson. William Henderson died at age 78 years old in 1942 in Hawthorn, City of Boroondara County.

Lee's home were set aside to be a military cemetery. The home and grounds had been in Lee's wife's family - she was a great-granddaughter of Martha Washington.

He bought a Winton, which he had seen in an advertisement in Scientific American. The Winton, built in Ohio, was made by hand and came with a leather roof, padded seats, gas lamps, and tires made by B.F. Goodrich.
