William Hopgood 1844 - 1910

William William Hopgood of Eaglehawk, Greater Bendigo City County, VIC Australia was born in 1844. He was married to Isabella Rebecca Pearce Hopgood, and had children Elizabeth Louisa Hopgood, Isabella Dora Hopgood, Elizabeth Louisa Porter, Sarah Hopgood, Thomas Joseph Hopgood, and Mabel Jane Hopgood. William Hopgood died at age 66 years old in 1910.

In 1844, in the year that William Hopgood was born, in June and July, the "Great Flood of 1844" occurred on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers - the largest flood recorded in that area. The population in the area was sparse at the time, though, so the flood didn't have a lot of economic impact. The biggest loss was to the Wyandot Indians - 100 people died from diseases caused by the flood.
