    William Wade Lorick was born on March 31st, 1896 in Fork, South Carolina to Hampton Alexander Lorick (1867 - 1930) and Lillian Maude Lorick (1869 - 1964). He had siblings Olive, Lillian, Herbert and Daisy. William W. Lorick married Marion Clifton Davis (1900 - 1988) on February 26th, 1922 and they had children Lillian, William Jr. and Davis "Alex".     LEXINGTON - William Wade Lorick, Sr. 73, of North Lake Drive, died Friday in his home. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Hampton A. and Lillian Maude Lorick. He was new car dealer in Lexington for 38 years and was vice-president of the Dreher Packing Co, in Columbia at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran church. Mr. Lorick was a charter member of the Lexington Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge No. 152, a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post No. 7. He was a Shriner. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Clifton Davis Lorick; a daughter, Mrs. W. B. Redd, Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, William Wade Lorick, Jr. and D. Alex Lorick of Lexington; and three sisters, Mrs. F. J. McIver , J. C. Dreher, Sr. and Mrs. H. W. Moody of Columbia. Funeral services will be at 4 p. m. Sunday in St. Stephens Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Milton Frick. Pallbearers will be J. C. Dreher, Jr., Louise DeBruhl, Edwin Saverance , H. W. Moody, Jr., Frank Metz, Jake Metz, Hodges Harman and Dr. Claude Harman. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorials to the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Lexington County Hospital. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home is in charge. - The State, Saturday, October 11, 1969

In 1896, in the year that William Lorick was born, in April, the first study on global warming due to CO2 - carbon dioxide - in the atmosphere was published by Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius. Arrhenius concluded that human activity due to the Industrial Revolution would amplify CO2 in the atmosphere, causing a greenhouse effect. His conclusions have been extensively tested in the ensuing 100+ years and are still seen to hold true.

In 1911, at the age of merely 15 years old, William was alive when the first use of aircraft as an offensive weapon occurred in the Turkish-Italian War. First used for aerial reconnaissance alone, planes were then used in aerial combat to shoot down recon planes. In World War I, planes and zeppelins evolved for use in bombing.
