    William M Byk was born on August 14, 1917 in Clifton, New Jersey to parents Mike Byk and Katie Tupychka. At the time of William's registration for the Selective Service, he was residing in Garfield, Bergen, New Jersey, and was employed at Wright Aeronautical Corp. On August 27, 1943, he registered for the Selective Service in Garfield, Bergen, New Jersey, at the age of 26. He then enlisted in the military on September 16, 1940, in Orange, New Jersey, at the age of 23. He joined the Infantry branch of the United States Army and held the rank of Private First Class as a National Guard officer. Byk's time in the military lasted from his enlistment date of September 14, 1937, to his discharge on July 14, 1943. During his time in the service, he attained the rank of Sergeant and served in World War II. He later owned and operated a Service station for 32 years in Cleveland, Ohio prior to moving to Florida in 1978. He was married to Olga Byk for 59 years and together the couple had 3 children, Dennis Byk, Diane Marshal, and Donna Woods.

    WILLIAM MARISLAV BYK 86, of 603 North Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, died Thursday evening May 20, 2004. Mr. By was born in Garfield, New Jersey on August 14, 1917. He owned and operated a Service station for 32 years in Cleveland, Ohio prior to moving to Florida in 1978. He is survived by his wife; Olga Byk, whom he was married to for 59 years, 3 children; Dennis Byk of Port St. Lucie, Diane Marshall of Lake Worth and Donna Woods of Hobe Sound, 6 grandchildren; Eric, Braden, Shawna, Adriane, Ryan, and Stacie; 1 great grandchild Meghan. He has many relatives living in the Ukraine and brought Mariya and Yarosiav Datsko to live in this country. His memberships included The Ukrainian American Club of the Palm Beaches, The American Legion and DAV. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at The Orthodox Church on St. Herman, 7099 South Military Trail, Lake Worth with internment to follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. Lake Worth. The family will receive friends at the E. Earl Smith & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Chapel, 1032 North Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, Monday, May 24, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM with Parastas services at 7:30. There were a lot of them and they were very popular. And where saloons often prohibited women, they were encouraged at speakeasies because of the added profits.
