  • Introduction

    William was actually William Manton Flinn, son of James Manton Flinn and Mary O'Malley.He was the oldest of their 5 children. Born Gippsland about 1842 (reg. no.42294) but not baptized until1848. Died Bruthen vic. 1909. Married Annabella Fraser at Sale Vic,1862. They had 13 children(.First child Margaret Mary born 1863 is my great grandmother.) William farmed at Binginwarri and West Alberton. Port Albert Maritime Museum has some info. from old newspapers. William's father James was Police Constable at Alberton-Port Albert at least 1847-51. Old township of Flynn and Flynns Creek named after him. Possibly farmed there. Williamina Doretita was born 1880, 7th child. Mary O'Malley's gravestone is still very clear, Rosedale cemetery, 2015. I am still looking to find where William and Annabella are buried. Rosedale Historical Society is very interested in the Flinn's, one of their members is about to write an account of them, William's siblings were James, born about 1846, Margaret born about 1851, John about 1855/57, and Mary Ann Doretta 1859/60. James Manton Flinn was born in Northern Ireland about 1791 (he died 1875), and Mary O'Malley born in Tipperary Ireland 1823 (she died 1876). Apparently a lot of the Flinn family still live at Bruthen.
