William Middlebrook was born in 1851 in Pietermaritzburg, Indlovu DC County, KwaZulu-Natal South Africa. He was in a relationship with Mary Elizabeth Middlebrook, and had children Mary Ann (Middlebrook) Pretty, Thomas Matthew Middlebrook, and Margaret Middlebrook Hayes. William Middlebrook died at age 67 years old on November 13, 1919 in Box Hill, Whitehorse City County, Victoria Australia.

    William's son William Middlebrook Born: 1894 in Kernot. Victoria served and died in World War II. He passed away on a hospital ship on July 27th 1915 from wounds received at ANZAC Cove. He was buried at sea. William's son Thomas Matthew Middlebrook, had five sons. Four of his son's fought in World War II, the youngest was to young being born in 1928. All survived and returned home. There names were Thomas Albert Middlebrook, Allan George Middlebrook, Phillip Matthew Middlebrook and Charles Leslie Middlebrook. Albert Middlebrook was the youngest son. I am sure he had other grandsons who served.

In 1851, in the year that William Middlebrook was born, on March 27th, the first recorded visit of white men to Yosemite Valley occurred. The Mariposa Battalion, chasing Native Americans, went into the valley. One man, Dr. Lafayette Bunnell, wrote "the grandeur of the scene was but softened by the haze that hung over the valley -- light as gossamer -- and by the clouds which partially dimmed the higher cliffs and mountains. This obscurity of vision but increased the awe with which I beheld it, and as I looked, a peculiar exalted sensation seemed to fill my whole being, and I found my eyes in tears with emotion."

On March 30th, Texas was readmitted to the Union. And on July 15th, Georgia became the last Confederate state to be readmitted to the Union.
